Auburn Hills, Michigan – May 14, 2014 —Continental Structural Plastics (CSP), a global leader in light-weight composite solutions, announced today its facilities in Carey, Ohio, and Tijuana, Mexico, have each received a Certificate of Achievement for Quality Performance from Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America Inc. This award acknowledges suppliers who have met Toyota’s highest standards in quality and delivery improvement for parts, materials and transportation.
“Toyota is known for having very high quality standards, and our teams work diligently to implement improvements and programs to ensure we are delivering products that exceed those standards,” said Frank Macher, chairman and CEO of CSP. “This award is an acknowledgement of the hard work and commitment our employees in Carey and Tijuana have shown for achieving outstanding quality.”
CSP’s 368,000 square-foot facility in Carey produces low density GMT and LFT underbody shields for the Lexus RX350. These composite shields offer good chemical and impact resistance, while reducing drag and improving fuel economy.
The 112,000 square-foot CSP facility in Tijuana utilizes a high-strength sheet molded compound (SMC) material to develop pickup box inner sub-assemblies for the Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. This composite pickup box offers a high strength to weight ratio, and is corrosion and impact resistant.
This is the first time the Carey facility has received the Toyota award, and the sixth time the Tijuana facility has been recognized by the automaker. Collectively, Toyota spends over $32 billion on parts, goods and services in North America. In the U.S. alone, there are nearly 60,000 supplier jobs dedicated to Toyota across more than 30 states.
